Communications Error

Incidentally, I should have said, I have tried another Mac as the SS server and get just the same. Also, it seemed to do this when I enabled continuous capture on that camera, but still did it when I disabled continuous capture. Also, I have another (Hikvision) camera connected quite happily.
-
Is there a chance the camera got a different IP address than what is saved in Security Spy? Another thing to double-check is that somehow the profile got changed to something different. These would be if Security Spy can't ever connect, not just intermittent connection.
-
No. I can connect to it using the same ip address as that saved in Security Spy
-
This won't be due to any change in captures settings (e.g. changing Continuous Capture). Can you think of anything else that changed at the same time as this stopped working? Have you tried restarting the camera (disconnect power, wait 10 seconds, reconnect power)?
-
I'm still having this problem and have drawn a complete blank. I did power cycle the camera but no different. I can access it directly via an iPhone or Safari but SS just gives communication error. Can you give me any troubleshooting pointers please ?
-
After power cycling the camera, it may now have a different IP address on your network as it did originally. Have you set up the camera with a static IP address on your network? If not, I suggest you do so - please see our Setting up network cameras instructions.
Another thing to try is the latest beta version of SecuritySpy (currently 4.0.11b9), as this has some improvements in terms of network communication. -
Only just got around to trying the Beta software. However it's just the same. I get communications error, however I can connect directly to the camera (with the same ip and port number) with either a browser or iPhone and no problem at all. I've completely hit a brick wall here - thing is it used to work fine

Sorry, because I've resurrected the thread I probably should have said it's a Foscam 19820 - is there anyone else here using that camera ?
-
Other things I would consider...
1. Did the camera update its firmware and change its communications protocol?
2. How old is your network switch? Over five years? If so, suspect degradation of the switch itself or its power supply. That can cause some hard to diagnose network issues. -
Go through the camera settings, if a firmware update was done as I recently did with several of my Foscams, suddenly the ONVIF wasn't enabled on 2 of them.
If you haven't updated the firmware around when the problem started... consider looking to see if there is an update - it's usually worth updating for security fixes they do as part of the updates from time to time.
