New camera- can't get Security Spy to see it
I am trying to install a new camera- a Foscam R2 like the last one.
I am getting "communication error" no matter what I try. Except for username and password and IP, settings are the same as for the previous R2. I even did a hard reset on the older R2 because I forgot the login, set it up again and it's working fine back on its old IP. I would like to post some screenshots but I don't see how.... I have no doubt that the IP is correct (a static IP I assigned it) as I can access the camera via web browser on its local IP address, and have tried my username/password many times thinking I could have mistyped. Tried a router reset and a computer restart.

Actually, "authentication error" is the message SS is giving me. I just set it up in my router and am able to access it via my DNS service over the web with no problem.

Are you absolutely sure that the username and password that you have entered into SecuritySpy match what is set up in the camera? The camera rejecting the username/password is the only reason why you would see this error (assuming the IP address and any custom ports entered are correct).
If you have checked this and are still getting this problem, I would recommend resetting the camera to its factory defaults and settings it up again. -
Thank you Ben. I have re-entered the username and password many many times now. I have now started completely fresh with a hard reset of the camera and new setup in Security spy, and same authentication error. I have no problem logging into the camera via browser either through local IP or through my DNS service. This is maddening.... any additional help appreciated.

Guess what? Apparently there is a 12 character limit on the password.... I found this discussion and thought I'd try taking off the trailing characters of the PW one by one-- I had 13 so *boom* on first try. It seems the camera's browser interface tells you 6-12 characters for PW but the phone app you use to initially create the username and password doesn't... apparently it just ignores any character past 12.
