Missing controls over camera feeds

All of a sudden in ViewCam, I'm missing the controls (volume, recording) on the camera window (which normally appear in the upper right corner). Only change I can think of is that I upgraded to MacOS Tahoe. Any thoughts?

    Hi @Dolph22 - ViewCam doesn't have recording, but it certainly should allow you to play live audio from your cameras. Are you seeing that the audio speaker icon specifically is missing now? This could be due to a recent ViewCam update rather than the macOS update.

    @Sawmill - are you referring to ViewCam or SecuritySpy?

  • Hi @Sawmill this won't be due to the Tahoe update. Could you please email us and supply a debug file (SecuritySpy menu > Debug > Create Debug File On Desktop), and also let us know:

    • What exactly isn't working: are the PTZ controls not available, or are they available but they have no effect?
    • What is the make/model of this camera, and what is it called in SecuritySpy? Pick a specific one that we can focus on.

    We will then work with you directly to resolve this issue.

  • Hi @Dolph22 we've tested this extensively with the latest version of ViewCam and can't find a problem. For us, audio works reliably no matter what we try. So it's a bit of a mystery at this point why it's not working for you. Things to check:

    • Make sure you're running the latest 2.0.2 version of ViewCam. Go to the App Store on your Mac, search for ViewCam, and apply any available update.
    • For the camera(s) in question, go to Settings > Cameras and make sure a "Format" option is selected that is marked "video and audio" and not "video only". Normally this will be the RTSP format.
    • Make sure the option there to "Enable audio for this camera" is enabled.
    • This may be a silly question, but are you sure your cameras have audio features? Do they definitely have built-in microphones?
  • All 3 of my cameras have audio. I'm using all of these in conjunction with SecuritySpy... using ViewCam, I've added all my cameras from SecuritySpy and it worked for over a year out of the box with no issue. Then the control just disappeared one day. All of the cameras are set to H.264 RTSP video and audio... So I decided to set one to H.264 HTTP (video and audio) and now it works. I don't recall ever setting it to RTSP, but either way, it's working now. 😁

  • Great to hear you found a fix. The HTTP option is preferable, though both options should work just fine so this is surprising. In our testing we have as yet been unable to reproduce this, but we'll take another look to see if we can find any issues.
