saving as .mov not m4v

I have 10 various makes of cams that are all set to h265 but 5 of them are saving captures as .mov , i can't figure this out. The settings are the same for them all. Another issue with 2 of the cams is they are both Dahua bought from BH Photo so they are supposed to be ok with SS. However one i can set to onvif and the other will not work set on onvif but works if set with Dahua. and this is one of the cams that saves as .mov. Other than this setting they are both configured the same and were purchased at the same time. Any suggestions would be helpful. All the cams are from the approved list that work with ss and none are grey market.

Thanks

  • This FAQ should help: Why can't I play back captured files in a web browser?

In short, if the video codec is H.264/H.265, it must be a non-AAC audio codec that is causing MOV files to be created. The camera must be set to AAC audio encoding in order to produce MP4 files. Log on to the camera with a web browser, locate the audio encoding settings, and set AAC encoding with a sample rate of 16 kHz (this sample rate gives a good balance between quality and bandwidth).

For the ones that aren't working via ONVIF: check that ONVIF is actually enabled in the camera. The other possible problem here could be an incorrect port: SecuritySpy should discover the ONVIF port automatically, so when using ONVIF it's generally recommended to leave the port boxes empty in SecuritySpy under Settings > Cameras > Device.

  • Ben,

Thanks for the suggestions. Since i don't care about sound so much and that was the easy thing to change i did that on the cams not recording in mp4 and now all is good. Thanks again!

  • Great to hear that. Turning off the audio is the best solution if you don't need it!
