Considering getting Unifi

I've had UDM Pro for 3 years now, zero issues personally.

I've got the Dream Machine (non-pro) and there are no problems with my network.

Did you happen to put SS on its own VLAN?

Personally nope, I just use unifi Traffic Management (3.0.20) feature to block individual cameras from internet.

I have a UniFi network at home and at work. I use 10Gbe switches, POE switches and USG routers on both sides. I don't have any regrets, but their UniFi network application updates can be annoying, they often seem to deprecate good routing/firewall features for no apparent reason or explanation. Their software UI does seem buggy, but the network application in general is great and their hardware is fantastic.

Category is set to "Internet", you test it by adding your phone.

I have two UI/SS networks (home & studio) and help some friends with their UI/SS networks.
SS has been rock solid with few issues and Ben is on top of stuff. Across the 5 networks I work with are 2 Mac Studio's and 3 Mac Mini's including one very old Mac Mini. I believe around 120 cameras across these.
UI has had some quality problems with their Unifi OS releases (Edge was rock solid though) that required being careful about upgrades and when you found a stable setup you'd sit on it for a long time before upgrading. Hopefully the migration to the v3 firmware platform will fix this.
FWIW, all of these have a dedicated switch to segregate most of the hardwire cameras from the rest of the network and from the internet - cameras always want to call home to momma and they generate a LOT of traffic. There are some cameras (HW and WiFi) that are not physically separated but do have their own subnet that does not have internet or local network access.
