"Very high CPU usage detected" Email

Been running SS for years (8 Cameras). Just recently I've recieved a few email alerts with the following..

"Very high CPU usage detected - reduce camera frame rates, check recording settings, or quit other applications"

Is there someting in SS or the logs that might help me diagnose exactly whats going on? Any recomendations?

Thanks

Jim

  • I do record motion on 7 of my cameras, and I noticed that some of my daily videos (I have one file per day) are 10-30 GB in size.

  • I just modified my "Triggers/Motion Capture Triggers" from "All movement" to "Specific Objects". See if that helps.

  • The best way to determine what process on your Mac is using lots of CPU resources is by looking at the CPU tab in Activity Monitor (which you will find in the Utilities folder within the Application folder).

If you see that it's SecuritySpy that's using significant CPU resources, please email us and include a debug file (SecuritySpy menu > Debug Create Debug File On Desktop), and we will be able to advise you on how to adjust your settings to reduce resource usage. The main thing that will achieve this in most cases is to reduce the frame rates that your cameras are set to. For general-purpose CCTV, we recommend 10fps.

    Thanks.

I modified my "Triggers/Motion Capture Triggers" from "All movement" to "Specific Objects" and reduced the frame rates on my cameras. So far, no emails. I'll continue to monitor, if that doesn't help, I'll send you a debug file.

    Thanks again.
