Cameras on the HD stream

Hi I've got 3 cameras, 1x Hikvision and 2x Xvision. They all work great when set to the lower stream (640x480 and 0.3 MP). As soon I set them o full resolution they start randomly connecting and disconnecting approximately every 5-10 seconds. I am testing the software and would like to get ahead with a purchasing it but needs to sort out these issues. Anyone can help, please?

  • A few question before I can help you:

    • Which model camera do you use?
    • Which profile do you use?
    • On what model Mac is SecuritySpy running?
    • How are the cameras configured for the other stream which causes problems (frame rate, compression method, bit rate)?
  • Thank you for your answer.

My Hikvision camera is DS-2CD2342WD-I and other two cameras are XVision C-X4C5000V-W.

Hikvision have found many profiles using auto-detection, but I use Hikvision profile (couldn't find actually one with full resolution)

Xvision cameras have got only one profile available - ONVIF with two streams - H264 640x480 (working perfectly - 0.3MP) or H264 2592x1944 (reconnecting - 5MP)

SecuritySpy is running on Mac mini 2014 Monterey OSX, 8GB RAM, 500GB NVMe SSD.

As I mentioned the most problematic are the Vision cameras on the mainStream - H264 2592x1944 15 fps.

Thank you in advance for a further help.

  • This sounds to me like it could be a network bandwidth issue. How are the Mac and cameras connected together? The ideal setup would be all wired to a gigabit Ethernet switch using high-quality Ethernet cabling. Avoid WiFi if possible.

The Hikvision profile for the Hikvision cameras, and the ONVIF profile for the Xvision cameras, should be good settings to use.

  • Correct, they are connected to an PoE Gigabit switch, no wifi. It might be a network issue as my max is 20 Mbps. I installed the same setup for my parents and they have the same issues. Their cameras won't connect at all once the substream is changed. They have fibre fast internet so I don't thing their bandwith is a problem.

  • I would try to reduce the mainstream to 10 fps or just change 1 camera to the higher resolution mainstream

    I am using a Hikvision DS-2CD2132-I without a problem with 1920*1080P and 15 fps

Can you share the screenshot of the Hikvision video config and the SecuritySpy camera setup?

  • Hikvision is working well as the profile I choose always set the camera to 0.9MP. What profile do you use? If I choose Hikvision profile it doesn't show in full resolution. See pics.

Other two cameras are working now at the max resolution so far even reconnecting sometimes. My bandwith is fast enough to run all cameras at the same time.

  • I noticed that the video format is H.265 and your Mac mini 2014 is not capable of decompressing it very well.

Please try to change the compression method in the camera from H.265 to H.264

You can test the capabilities of your Mac with the Video Code Test

  • That was the problem. It also is taking now 8% of the processor instead 50%. Well done. Amazing. I knew it worth to ask here :) Thank you guys to all.

  • Thank you @pcgaasbeek for providing the right answer!
