Can't access web server on LAN or remote

I've had two instances now—today and yesterday—where I can't connect to the SS web server via my LAN (I'm using the static assigned IP as in my desktop browser bar) or via a iOS browser via a cellular network. For instance, today, it worked this morning and earlier this afternoon, but now times out with no connection. It's been like that for at least an hour now.

I just pinged the IP using Terminal and it's there and coming back with between 0.4 and 0.6 ms...

Wait, now the server is accessible. This is weird.

I checked the uptime on the Mac Mini and it's six days. It and the network are on UPSs, so brief power outages shouldn't affect things, but as far as I know, there hasn't been any the last two days.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

  • Unfortunately it's impossible to tell what went wrong here for this period of time. Certainly a static IP address setup is the most reliable way to connect, and that eliminates some possible problems that could happen with other setups. One thing to check is SecuritySpy's log file (File menu in SecuritySpy -> Open Log) to see if there are any errors reported, relating to the web server. Also, check your recording history to see if there are any obvious gaps in the recording, which may have some corresponding errors shown in the log.
  • Same here: Since at least a week xxxx.viewcam.me is not accessible from a webbrowser. Used to work as a charm.
Nothing changed at my side, iOS app works, SS-server says test: OK.
I tried xxxx.viewcam.me from several LAN's and WAN.
    What could be the problem?
  • Same as above. Am able to view while at home on our LAN but not while away when using xxxx.viewcam.me from browser or App.
  • Lack of remote viewing could be due to a number of factors - please first follow this FAQ: I'm unable to access my system remotely - how can I troubleshoot this?

If you are still having problems after going through this FAQ, please email us, including screenshots of all relevant settings, and we will help you with this directly.
  • @dickvanderkolk - if the iOS app works remotely, then your remote setup is working fine. The fact that you can't access in a web browser could mean that you may be omitting the port from the access URL. For example, if your SecuritySpy is set up to use default ports (8000 for HTTP and 8001 for HTTPS), then the remote access URLs would be:

    http://example.viewcam.me:8000

    or

    https://example.viewcam.me:8001
  • I am having the same problem lately. The web server test is OK and I can access with iOS app internal to network, but not externally. Also, when I type the URL directly (inlcuding the port number) outside of my network, it says it can't reach server. I have changed the port number and changed the xxxx.viewcam.me server, and nothing works outside of my network any longer. I had it working fine before both internally and externally.
  • Okay, I set up a reserved IP address for my computer and then a manual port forward. That worked, so I think it was a router (eero Pro) problem. I notice some of their updates recently have to do with uPnP.
