Audio Problem from Logitech Webcam

Hi,

Am try to use a Logitech
USB webcam that is mounted in a bird nestbox, so that I can stream pictures onto my website. I can hear the audio in the SS host program, but can only hear it on the SS client web page if I select QuickTime MPEG4 format, and the pictures are then lousy. Is there a way around this, or have I missed something? Can I grab an audio stream elsewhere and add that to my page - can't see anything in the HTTP pages about this? It is a bit late to change camera as a bird has already moved in.... I expect that I have either missed something really obvious, or that I have come up against the limitations of using technology from the last millennium with software from this millennium! Any suggestions much appreciated!

  • Hi Crispin,

When viewing in a web browser, the QuickTime MPEG-4 option is the only one that provides audio. If the video compression looks bad, then increase the "MPEG-4 compression for video streaming" quality setting in the Compression Settings window in SecuritySpy to improve the quality.

Alternatively, use another copy of SecuritySpy to view the stream on the other computer. this will give you total control over the streaming parameters and compression settings. This setup is described in the SecuritySpy User Manual. SecuritySpy can be used free of charge for the purposes of viewing only, so you don't have to purchase another license for this.

    Hope this helps!
  • Many thanks, obvious now, have reset compression settings and pictures now ok, however I don't seem to be able to view this on an iPad.... I guess this is down to resolution and other compression settings, will experiment... or is this not possible?

Hi Crispin, on the iPad you will need to use the Live Cams Pro app to get video and audio from SecuritySpy.

Alternatively Remote Patrol HD is a great app that is specifically developed for SecuritySpy by Complete System Solutions with a lot of our own input, and an update that supports audio is imminent (should be a matter of weeks now).

    Hope this helps.
