Something i'd LOVE to see in a future release would be the ability to specify a jpg that the web browser/apps would display if the camera is offline. I primarily use SS with IndigoDomo and if a camera is offline i just get a string of 404 errors in my logs any time a camera gets disconnected or becomes unavailable.. i'd much rather it displayed a custom image of a Telly test card saying "Stay tuned technical difficulties" or something like that.

  • Thanks for the interesting idea!
  • Don't suppose there's ever been any movement on this? Would be exceptionally handy!
  • Sorry, although it is an interesting idea, I don't think we are going to change the current behaviour. If a camera is offline, then a 404 "not found" response is appropriate. It would be significant work to add a feature to send out a dummy/placeholder image, and it's something that won't benefit the vast majority of our users, so we have to focus development efforts elsewhere.

Bummer! I’ll go cry in the corner now!

Actually it has occurred to me that it might be possible to do this from within Indigo now (using a variables option that didn’t exist before).. if I can get it to work I’ll post the steps here in case anyone else wants to be pedantic like me!
  • Sorry about that. Yes, if you can work out a solution within Indigo please post back the instructions, that would be very helpful.
  • Durosity, hope you post it on the Indigo forum as well. Thanks!

Will do. It actually worked out a lot easier than I thought, just going to tidy it up a bit after Xmas. It also will help against getting loads of entries in the log about unavailable cameras!

Oh and don’t worry about it Ben, I understand the difficulty of balancing feature requests and user demands. You’ve done well this year.. SS5 is great! I’ve been using the human tracking AI stuff to give a much better estimate or if someone is in a room in my house and it’s improved a lot of my automations. Give yourself a pat on the back!
  • Many thanks @durosity, much appreciated!
