Apple Neo A18

Hi Ben

I would really like to get away from using Intel silicon. Is the new Neo a candidate?

9 cameras not a power user

  • Hi Dale, the Neo will undoubtedly provide excellent performance running SecuritySpy with your 9 cameras. However, a MacBook is generally a poor choice for running SecuritySpy, simply because such machines tend to be put to sleep and moved around frequently. SecuritySpy needs to be run on a Mac that is always at the location of the cameras, and always awake, which is why generally a Mac mini is a better choice for this purpose.

  • Thank You .... I also came to that conclusion. The 2017 intel machine that I have running now is basically a headless clamshell with external memory. I am thinking that the M6 mini is a better choice

  • 2017 Macs are still capable machines. While the newer Apple Silicon chips are of course far faster and more powerful, I would advise upgrading only if you are seeing performance issues with your current setup. If you want a step up in performance without spending too much, a used M1 Mac mini from eBay could be a good option for you here (make sure to get one with 16 GB RAM though).
