Starling Hub + Google Nest Cam = RTSP
Hi,
I'm not sure if you've heard of the Starling Home Hub:
https://www.starlinghome.io, if you haven't
it's a hub that easily makes Google Nest camera implementation into the Apple Home app.
Similar to the way you can currently do this with Homebridge and Scrypted for non native Apple Home Cameras. And, they're actually thedevelopers of the original Google Nest Thermostat homebridge plugin.
I, was recently speaking to their tech support and they mentioned that they "have an upcoming firmware update in the next few weeks that will give the hub the ability to expose RTSP streams for all cameras (both Nest and third party), so for example you can stream the cameras to a NVR, watch them on a computer...etc All of that without requiring a Google Nest Aware subscription."
So, I know that Security Spy is able to utilize RTSP streams already but I just wanted to give you a heads up so you know of this upcoming feature from Starling Hub that I'm extremely excited about. If it works as well they say it will, I'm purchasing multiple security spy licenses early next year for all of my friends and families that have google nest cameras.
I asked for their permission to contact you about this upcoming feature and they said that if there were to be any compatibility issues with Security Spy, they would aim to work around them on their side.
They also said "We have a good relationship with Google and never go in directions that would cause upset, but we don't believe that would be an issue with our RTSP support. This is a capability that's already available via the official Google SDM API, but it's extremely user unfriendly and requires coding to use, so we can do much better on that front.”

This is great new - if Starling implements this, we'll be able to create a dedicated profile in SecuritySpy to pull these streams in. It's a shame that Google has made this so difficult, but hopefully this will be a viable solution. We will update as things progress with this new development.
