Warning: available space on the volume is below the warning threshold

I'm getting these warning emails about every 10 - 30 minutes.

Warning: available space on the volume is below the warning threshold specified in the Storage Preferences. This volume currently has 67.8 GB available.

It should be deleting the oldest video's to free space as necessary but does not appear to be doing so. IIRC the threshold was set for 100GB.

FWIW, I'm also getting a lot of 'connection failed' when trying to view cameras with SS on my iPhone. Access to other systems seems good so not a network problem. SS (I believe we're currently on 5.5.11 or 5.5.10) is running on an M2 Max Studio (I believe w/ 32gb ram) so shouldn't be machine constrained.

I tried to manually delete old files with SS on my iPhone but scrolling down to get to older files I'd be more comfortable deleting is taking forever (I get about 3 days every 4 - 5 minutes).

Questions:

  • Thoughts on how to fix this?
  • I'm remote for a bit and do not have MacOS setup for remote login. Is there a way through SS to change settings if necessary?

Thanks all,

  • In SecuritySpy v5, basic settings are available via the web interface. So, the first thing to do is to verify that your auto-delete settings are correct.

Note that this warning will be generated for any drive(s) that you have set SecuritySpy to record to, but also the system drive. So you could have a situation where you get a warning for the system drive, but SecuritySpy isn't managing space on this drive because it's recording elsewhere. So it's worth double-checking which which drive the email is referring to.

Note that SecuritySpy v5 is now discontinued, and we are no longer able to offer any further support or updates for it. We are not aware of any bugs in v5 related to file management, but if there is such a bug, it will not be fixed. Please consider upgrading to SecuritySpy version 6, which is a major upgrade with lots of great new features. In SecuirtySpy v6, all settings are available via the web interface, which makes the software much easier to remotely configure.

  • Thanks Ben. Totally forgot about the web interface!

I have a license for v6 but it wouldn't accept it and haven't yet had time to troubleshoot. Hopefully next week.
