No playback on Mac Safari

Hi,

Just upgraded my cameras to 8M Hikvision color vu. This gets recorded onto my Mac Mini M1 running security spy. When i look at recored footage on iOS devices, iPhone, iPad, it works great. If I try to view recorded footage on my Mac using Safari it does not play. I get the list of videos, but when I click on the HQ icon the window to play pops up but no video plays. I'm using H264 on the Hikvision. My Mac is also relatively new, maybe a setting on Safari ?

Note: This is in the house on the same wifi channel.

Thanks James

  • What version of osX and Safari are you using? Also, does it work with an alternative browser like Firefox?

The Mac laptop is Ventura 13.3.1 and Safari is 16.4. I'm almost sure (99%) I tried Chrome yesterday and it didn't work. Have not tried Firefox. i can screen share with the Mac Mini no problem so there is a connection. Also on the Mac laptop I do get the list of available videos. The videos are 8M (4K) can that be an issue playing on some browsers ?

  • This is probably due to the audio format that the Hikvision is sending. Since Hikvision cameras don't support AAC audio, SecuritySpy cannot create the type of files that play back in web browser (MP4 files). You should either disable audio, or get SecuritySpy to encode the audio to AAC format for recording. This FAQ explains more: Why can't I play back captured files in a web browser?

  • ok, I'll look into that

    Thanks James

  • Yes, that fixed the issue. Encoded the audio as AAC.

    Thanks James
