ONVIF vs Native Support

I'm getting ready to setup a new SecuritySpy server (our 5th). From a resource standpoint does it make a difference in doing ONVIF vs native support (in this case Vivotek).

Thanks,

  • If there is an available manufacturer-specific profile it's always (a bit) preferable to use this. ONVIF is just a means of automatically discovering all the information that's built into the profile (video stream paths, PTZ commands, stream numbers etc.). So, while the result is the same, with ONVIF there is this extra initial negotiation step, therefore slightly more time required and more that can go wrong.

  • Thanks, unfortunately it doesn't look like there is native support for this model - Vivotek IT9380-H.

Simply use the profile called "Vivotek". Helpfully, Vivotek have maintained a very consistent API for all their camera models for many years, so this one profile works for all of them.
