Getting Error Message for Default setting
I am getting the following error
"A significant number of video frames could not be decoded due to decoder overload - this can result in jerky/uneven video in live displays and/or captured footage - try reducing camera frame rates."
I have 5 cameras in system all on default setting and to the best of mu knowledge (meaning I didn't enable it)_ capturing any video
Is this just a random system bug
I am running SS 5.6 on MacOs 12.67. on a mac mini with 8 Gb Ram

Please see this FAQ, which should answer your question and provide solutions: I'm getting a "decoder overload" warning, what does this mean? Let me know if you need any further information.
-
It just seemed strange this just start only after the last updated. to Security Spy
-
There's nothing specific in the latest v5.5.5 that I can think of that could have caused this – the problem is simply that the Mac can't keep up with the decoding of the incoming video data – but if you would like to go back to the previous v5.5.4 version to try that, you can do so using the menu option at SecuritySpy > Debug > Change Software Version.
-
If it helps Ben I'm seeing this issues and a couple of others with the latest 5.5.5 version. I see issues after around 60 minutes with the securityspy server connecting to the configured DDNS, if I do a 'dig' on my DDNS from the same host it resolves fine however SS just stops connecting to it. I'm reverting to 5.5.4 as per your guidance and will report if it fixes (I will know in around 60 minutes)

Hi @alexwaddell, it's a bit difficult to fully understand what you are describing and it sounds like this issue would benefit from individual assistance, so please could you email us at support@bensoftware.com, and include screenshots to demonstrate the problem you are seeing with the DDNS.

your link refer to h264. I m using MJPEG. with no option to set frame rate
-
Yes, the FAQ mostly applies to H.264/H.265 encoding, but the advice to reduce frame rates also applies to MJPEG too. For most cameras, it's not possible for SecuritySpy to request a specific frame rate for the stream - this has to be set on the camera itself. Reducing the frame rate in the camera's settings will reduce the amount of work that SecuritySpy has to do, and will help to minimise or eliminate the "decoder overload" problem.

nor apparently is there anyway on my three panaonic. cameras but they are old and apple hate old.
-
It's up to the camera to provide these kinds of controls - if they are not available then it's down to the design of the camera itself.
If these cameras are old, only support JPEG, and don't have useful settings to change stream parameters, then perhaps it is time to upgrade these cameras to new models. The quality of CCTV cameras has really improved over the last decade, and I'm sure you will be very pleased by the quality that can be achieved with cameras these days. Please see our list of compatible cameras for information about which ones are supported.
But if you want to stick to your cameras, and you want us to take a closer look at your system to see if we can suggest anything further that can help it to function better, please email us at support@bensoftware.com and include a debug file (SecuritySpy menu > Debug > Create Debug File On Desktop), along with any relevant screenshots demonstrating any problems that you see, and a list of the makes/models of your cameras. We will then look over all of this and let you know what improvements we can suggest.
