Save to Specific Folders

Hi, is there a way to have Continuously captured footage and motion captured footage to save to separate folders/locations?

  • Sorry, there is no setting for this: each camera can have only one capture destination, where all recordings are saved.

However, there is a workaround to achieve what you want, which is to add the camera twice. The first instance can do Continuous Capture to one location, while the second instance can do Motion Capture to a different location. If you use identical device settings, SecuritySpy will recognise that they are the same camera, and will not count the second instance towards the license limit.

  • Okay, If I were to do as you suggest, how would it display in the Apple TV app? In the captures tab will it show two different folders or will the motion and captured footage be combined in the same listing?

  • Each camera instance would be separate, and would show in the Apple TV app as separate cameras. For clarity, you could name them appropriately, for example "Front Door - Motion" and "Front Door - Continuous".

It's not ideal to have multiple instances of the same camera, so really it's better if you can modify your plan to avoid this. If you have a large enough drive, you can just set all cameras to record to this drive and not worry about anything. And, SecuritySpy does allow you to have different automatic age-based deletion thresholds for motion vs. continuous files, so you can (for example) keep a longer history of motion files if this is what's important to you.
