Motion status in Camera Info Window

Running SS 5.5.1

Has anyone else experienced or does anyone know what the '-' means in the Motion column?

I saw this also for the Hallway camera earlier, restarted SS, and everything went back to normal, but a few minutes later, I see '-' for a different camera.

Thank, Paul.

  • This time, two of the cameras have '-'.

I unticked and ticked the 'Motion' column and it was fine again, so looks like a bug/glitch?

  • This means that motion detection isn't currently being performed for these cameras.

Most likely, it's because you have enabled the option under Preferences > General to "Perform motion detection only when required". With this option enabled, when motion detection isn't required for any current task (e.g. Motion Capture recording and Actions are currently unarmed), it is suspended in order to save processing resources.

Instead, if you wish to have motion detection active at all times, you should uncheck this option. Motion detection won't use much processing resources on a modern Mac, so it's usually fine to leave it on all the time.

  • Thanks Ben. That's exactly right. I did have the option ticked. As I've recently moved to a M1 iMac I will untick it.

    Paul.

  • I'm not sure to understand, but I still have problems:

Hi @pgh - for your camera that isn't detecting motion, I suspect that the "Enable video motion detection" option under Preferences > Cameras > Triggers has been turned off. i.e. this setting:

  • Hello. Motion detection is/was enabled:

  • @pgh - in that case, I'm not immediately sure what could be the cause. So that we can check your settings, please email us and provide a debug file (SecuritySpy menu > Debug > Create Debug File On Desktop) and we'll help you with this directly.

  • Must be a visual glitch because just a close/open window fixes it.

  • Good to hear that. I'll take a look to see if we can determine what could cause this, and fix it for the next update.

  • I have seen this happen again in my setup, even with the above settings, and closing and re-opening the Info Window resolved it, so a glitch I think.

  • I think we have found the cause of this glitch, we'll make sure it's fixed in the next update.
