Lost External Access

I have a new iMac M1 and moved over all SS via the Export/Import setting and it's running fine on my home network, but I cannot for the life of me get it to work outside at all.

I have the same settings, nothing has changed other than the computer yet I can't view cameras or recordings from outside my home.

Any suggestions please?

  • Could it be a security or firewall setting on your new m1?

  • Yes, check that the firewall on your Mac is either off, or has SecuritySpy listed as an exception (under System Preferences > Security & Privacy).

Previously, did you set your Mac to a static/manual IP address, with a manual port forwarding rule defined in the router? If so, then set up your new Mac with the same IP address as your old Mac.

The other main thing to try here is a restart of your router.

If this doesn't solve it, please go through the troubleshooting steps outlined via I'm unable to access my system remotely - how can I troubleshoot this?

Ok Firewall Off also not that.

Can't see SS listed anywhere under Security as an exception.

No Port Forwarding was set for my old iMac or this one, so no idea what's going on.

Router already restarted so not that.

Been through troubleshooting steps and got no where.

Have nfi what's going on. Works fine on home network but outside access not at all and only since changed to new iMac.

  • For us to investigate this for you, please email us and include the following:

    • A screenshot of your Mac's network setup under System Preferences > Network
    • SecuritySpy's debug file (SecuritySpy menu > Debug submenu > Create Debug File On Desktop)
    • The make/model of your router and any other modem/router that is in the path between your Mac and the Internet
