Diabled cameras being enabled automatically
I am having an issue with Security Spy enabling cameras that I have manually disabled. I have more cameras than my subscription so I do not have them all enabled, I manually manage those settings. Lately I have been having to go and manually disable cameras over and over after disabling them.
Any help would be appreciated.

SecuritySpy doesn't automatically enable disabled cameras, so there must be some other explanation for this. Some ideas:
- Make sure when making any changes that you are either closing the Preferences window, or clicking the "Apply Preferences" button.
- Cameras can also be enabled/disabled via the web interface, could this be happening? Also by AppleScript.
- Are any other settings that are being forgotten/corrupted? This could point to a general problem reading/writing the preferences to disk. -
I have clicked the "apply Preferences" button so many times I can not tell you how many.
Do not use the web interface to control preferences and do not know how to write apple scripts.
No other settings are being changed that I am aware of.
I run Security Spy on a lone 2018 mac mini and that is all it is used for. It is running Big Sur. Even unplugging the cameras so they are not powered Security Spy still enables them after I have unchecked enable box and applied preferences. -
I'm a bit stumped by this, because what you are describing sounds like it should be impossible. SecuritySpy does not have a mechanism to re-enable cameras that have been disabled, and there are no known bugs related to this - such a problem is not being reported by any other user.
Can you confirm that you are using the latest 5.3.4 version of SecuritySpy, available from the SecuritySpy download page?
When exactly are these cameras getting re-enabled? Are you seeing it happen spontaneously while SecuritySpy is running? How long after they have been disabled? Or does this happen only when SecuritySpy is closed and reopened? Are you seeing any other unusual symptoms or messages (e.g. a message that SecuritySpy "unexpectedly quit" perhaps)?
Is there a sequence of actions that you can take to reliably reproduce the problem? If so, could you please take a screen recording of this and email it to us at support@bensoftware.com (see How to record the screen on your Mac). -
Confirmed it is 5.3.4
I run SS 24/7.....I do not monitor them 24/7 though. So I am not sure when they reenable themselves. I do not know how long they stay disabled either. It is not when it is closed and reopened since that is not something I do on a regular basis. No messages either. This week I was out of town so I disabled them via the web interface and they got enabled at least 2 times after each time I disabled them via the web. I understand it is a strange thing that is happening since I have not had this problem ever before and have been using SS for several years now.
Appreciate you helping me try to figure it out.
