Cannot delete recordings via web (no response) or local application

Running as demo with a 12 camera network, on a brand new M1 Mac Mini (macmini9,1). Setup went well, and motion capture works, but I'm experiencing several issues with deleting recordings.

• There seems to be no way of deleting multiple recordings using the iOS app. Is this correct?

• The web interface allows selection of all recordings (but not individual ones?), but deletion simply does not work. The user is returned to the recordings page, with nothing deleted.

• The local application has no means of selecting multiple dates, and does not display all recordings from a selected date if all cameras are selected, forcing the user to page through each camera. Worse, when any selected recordings are deleted/sent to trash, the application crashes.

These seem like major oversights. We've already scrapped our ZoneMinder server in favor of SecuritySpy, and I really don't want to have to go back to my employers and tell them that, $1300 in, we have a system which cannot delete recordings.

Help of any kind would be most appreciated.

  • I'm sure we will be able to fix any problems you are having with this. To address your points individually:

    - That's correct, you can currently delete only one file at a time via the iOS app.

    - There does appear to be a bug in the latest release related to deleting files via the Browser feature in SecuritySpy's UI. This should now be fixed in the latest beta version of SecuritySpy (currently 5.3.2b1). Please test and confirm.

    - The Browser feature shows one day at a time. But it should show all files for all selected cameras (up to 6 maximum selected at one time). If you think you are seeing problems with this, please email us and include screenshots of the Browser window to demonstrate (Command-Shift-4, press space bar, click on window).

    - The problem that you are describing with the web interface was present in an older version of SecuritySpy, but as far as I am aware this is fixed in the latest release. Please let me know if you are still seeing this in the above beta version.

    - Via the web interface, you can select a file by clicking on its thumbnail image, which will then show a red border to indicate that its selected. Shift-click to select a series of files; Command-click to select multiple individual files.

    - I would suggest that deleting files manually is not something you should do - with 12 cameras at an active site, you're going to get hundreds or even thousands of recordings per day. It's far better to simply let SecuritySpy automatically delete old files via the settings under Preferences > Cameras > Storage. Storage is cheap, and if you have enough of it, you will get a long history of recordings without having to manually interfere with file management.
  • Thanks, Ben. I'll grab the beta and give it a shot. I'll email with any remaining issues.
  • Beta fixed the web deletion issue. I would never have thought I could only select six cameras in the browser, but that seems to be the issue I've been having there. I think we have this handled. Thanks.
  • Great to hear that. The synchronised multi-camera playback is limited to 6 cameras for performance and UI considerations (e.g. fitting in all the camera views and timeline tracks etc.).
