Limit the bandwidth of a specific camera?

I've just installed SecuritySpy 4.1.2 on a Mac Mini running macOS Sierra 10.12.4, licensed for 4 cameras. Local cameras work fine, as my LAN is 10/100 with a gigabit backbone.

I have a camera in another location that I access through a pair of Adtran routers with a site-to-site VPN, and when I enable that camera my Internet bandwidth suffers a lot. [Not really sure if that's a VPN issue or an internet bandwidth issue, but it doesn't really matter, it makes the use of that camera essentially impossible.]

I've also got some cameras outside my LAN that I'd like to control the bandwidth consumption on.

Is there a way to reduce the bandwidth used by certain cameras? For instance, I have a number of Foscam FI9853EP cameras with a "Main Stream" and a "Sub Stream", which are configurable for bandwidth used in each mode. I'm using them in Foscam H.264 mode, but there doesn't seem to be a way to select which "Stream" I want...

Is there any way of adjusting the bandwidth used by a camera? Video Size, Frame Rate, and stream number are greyed out for these cameras...

You can tweak the parameters of the streams via the camera's web interface. Reducing the video resolution, frame rate or encoding quality will all reduce the bandwidth of the stream.

So as not to compromise video quality too much, I would suggest keeping the maximum resolution but reducing the frame rate (e.g. to 1fps).

We'll add support for the substream in the next SecuritySpy update, but for now you can set this up in SecuritySpy as follows:

- Change the Profile to Manual
- Select RTSP as the Format
- Enter videoSub as the Request
- If you aren't getting a connection, try 88 as the RTSP port
