iPhone as a Camera? Old MacBook Camera
So first, I love SecuritySpy. Works great, and now I want to add cameras and see how they work. I already set up a wifi mesh with 2 access points to my greenhouse and have a PTZ/POE camera running over it. Works great.
So...was reading where there are some apps to allow old iphones to be used as wifi cameras. Any recommendations? I see Presence, Alfred Systems, and Reservoir Dev.
Also, I have 2 old MacBook's that I would like to set up as permanent skype/security monitors, but was hoping to be pointed to a link on how to provision them. I spent about 4 hours last night and could not find anything definitive, but it's where I came up with the links on the iphones as cameras, so it wasn't wasted time.
My thought is this...not stalker, but as part of the smarthome initiative that I am working on, when someone comes home, then the motion alerts my wife and I (got to figure out how to minimize the alerts. Maybe talk to Ben about silence until some time interval.), we can pull up skype to the screen and say hey to the other or just have the motion recorded for security purposes. Just thinking out loud at the moment.

Happy to hear you like the software!
We have a blog post Using an iPhone as a CCTV Security Camera that outlines a few options. I'm not familiar with the apps that you name, though any app that can stream in JPEG-over-HTTP (usually called "MJPEG") or H.264-over-RTSP format will work with SecuritySpy.
If you want to use the cameras inside your old MacBooks as security cameras, streaming video to your main SecuritySpy server that will record the feeds, then we have a product for this called RemoteSight.
If you have any further questions on this or how to manage the alerts please let me know. -
Thanks Ben, you're the best. I will check out the links.

I came across another H.264/RTSP iPhone app called Larix...
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/larix-broadcaster/id1042474385?mt=8
It's free, and it seems similar to Live-Reporter but possibly better overall. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to connect it to SecuritySpy. It requires the user to manually enter a URL (within the Larix app) for the server it will be broadcasting to (I think that's how it works). It's probably really simple, but for some reason I can't come up with the right string. If someone has a minute to check it out, it might be good option for using an iPhone as a security camera. -
Hi @ifunlisted I've had a look at Larix and I don't think it can be used with SecuritySpy. It does support RTSP, but it seems to only work with "Nimble Streamer" unfortunately.

Yeah, that's what their support is saying too. I'll take another crack at Live-Reporter.
