Checking if older Mac Mini can handle small home setup
  • I looked at the System Requirement Calculator, but I'm not an expert and just want to make sure my setup will work. I am finishing a setup for 4 cameras ranging from 2-3MP and they will be recording through my Mac Mini to a Drobo with TBs of storage. Below are the specs on the Mini. fps for cameras will be 10. Is this adequate?

    Mac Mini (Late 2012)
Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
750GB SSD for main Mac HD
    Recording to external Drobo
  • Yes, this Mac should be OK for the setup you describe, though depending on the actual resolution of your cameras and your recording options, you may get slightly lower than 10fps performance, but not much lower. So I would say go ahead with this setup, it should perform well. When setting it up, have a look at the Optimising Performance section of the user manual for tips on how to get the best performance.
  • Thank you Ben. I will look at the optimising performance also.
