SV3C cameras won't reconnect after restart

I have four SV3C POE cameras in addition to four more cameras of other brands.

These SV3C cameras have worked reliably for 3 years, but lately they will not reconnect after a restart. I've even let them go overnight to see if they'd reconnect automatically (like they used to) but no luck.

The only way to get them to reconnect is to open them individually in a web browser and use the web interface to restart them manually. I usually get an error of "Error loading XML document:xml/en.xml" several times before I get them to reboot successfully.

This seems to have started after I upgraded from Mojave to Big Sur. It affects all the SV3Cs all the time, and all the other cameras connect just fine.

Any clues on what to look for?

  • I'm not immediately sure why this could be happening, but it certainly should not be related to the macOS update.

When you say that they do not reconnect "after a restart", what is the thing restarting here - the Mac running SecuritySpy?

Do the cameras have an option to auto-reboot on a schedule (e.g. every night/week)? This can be a good thing to try with unreliable cameras in order to keep them online.

  • Yes, I mean when I restart the computer itself. If the computer is restarted, SecuritySpy fires up and the other cameras mount within a few minutes. The SV3Cs usually don't, even after hours. They didn't use to do this.

Unfortunately there is no option for auto reboot, and these cameras are not well supported. In the 3 years I've had them, there's never been any firmware updates, and even their site uses ipsum lorem (placeholder text) in many spots.

My fault for buying unknown cameras, but I'd rather not have to replace 4 of these if I can figure out why they all started acting up at the same time.
