Network cameras

We recommend using network cameras. The Axis 214 and Axis 232D+ are excellent high-end cameras.

Analogue cameras can be connected to your system with a PCI input card or network video server.

Ethernet switch

If you want to use a large number of cameras spread over several Macs, we would recommend creating a separate network for each Mac and the cameras connected to it.

Cabling

If you are connecting more than twenty cameras to a single network we recommend that you use Gigabit Ethernet.

Mac

An Intel Xserve or Mac Pro will support up to forty cameras, which requires 900 GB of free disk space.
