How to convert my Outdoor IP camera to solar power.
  • Has anybody successfully done this. Is there a kit or DIY instructions somewhere?
  • Many IP cameras can take a 12v power supply, so it should be possible to hook this up to a 12v lead acid battery and 12v solar charger. These items are fairly common and inexpensive, as they are commonly used in boats and caravans. You would just need to work out what capacity battery and charger you need, based on the stated power requirements of the camera.

However, the best way to connect a camera is always by wired Ethernet (which can also supply power - PoE), so I would strongly recommend doing this if you can. If the camera is far away then WiFi won't work well anyway, unless you have some kind of special WiFi booster antenna.
